A FIRM FOUNDATION FOR YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE: Part 2: Biblical Principle #1
/The first lesson we learn from Jesus story is that both the wise man and the foolish man experienced a sever storm that shock their house to the very foundations. Going through a storm in life isn't a matter of "if" it's going to happen but more a matter of "when" it is going to happen! Difficult times, hardships and disappointments can't be avoided. They are a part of life. They are going to show up and when they hit the only thing you'll have is your foundation to help you weather it.
Jesus said in John 16:33,
"I have told you these things, so that in me you might have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (NIV)
Did you see what Jesus said there? He said in the world
"YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLES!”
Not that you might have troubles or its a pretty good bet you'll have tough times. No. Jesus made it very clear that everyone, all of us will go through storms in life. Some of those storms may be mild and not so bad but other storms might just rock your world in a way that bring dread to your life.
Jesus' half brother James says the same things in James 1:2,
"Consider it all joy my brothers when you encounter various trials. Knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance." (NAS)
There it is again by James as he writes,
"When you encounter various trials" not "if you encounter various trials.
You see both Jesus and James knew very well that we as people cannot control whether or not we will experience those storms of life that rattle us to the very core of our foundations.
